Over the last few months, I’ve really fallen off of my running pace and mileage. I guess it’s normal, especially after working so hard to accomplish a goal. But now it’s time to get serious. I plan on running the Pasadena Marathon on November 16. That gives me 17 weeks to accomplish the following: 1. [...]

Sorry for the pun. But I am proud, and relieved, to report that after one week of school, I have yet to miss a run. My schedule has been moved up – I ran regularly at 4:30-5 a.m., but it has actually created more time for me to do other things, like grade papers and [...]

1. I can run 9 miles.2. I can’t run 10 miles… yet.3. Always wear sunscreen when running after 7:30 a.m. in September in California.4. Although the thermometer may say 85, it’ll actually feel like 105 if there is no shade.5. Even though I’m running, this iPod arm band will give me a pretty ugly looking [...]

Man, is tempo running hard… What is this “tempo running” you ask? Well, it’s a type of running in which a runner runs at a difficult pace for an extended period of time. This morning, I ran a 10-minute warm-up and then ran a 10-minute tempo run at a 7:15/mile pace. Then I ran at [...]

Poor Girl

Damn it! I hate it when audience members throw out trick questions…

I signed up for my first race in, oh, 11 years yesterday. It’s the Nike+ Run Hit Remix race in Downtown Los Angeles on Sept. 15. I’m quite excited about this 5-mile race, which will have several performers on stages throughout the race. Naughty by Nature, Sir Mix-A-Lot, and The Sugarhill Gang will all be [...]

I’ve been off of work for the last month, which has really allowed me to jump start my training. But tomorrow is back to school. This is where I imagine training will be difficult. Here’s hoping I can stay on track! If you’re bored, check out this video. It’s pretty old, but I love it:

Today was the longest I’ve ran since beginning my training. I ran 7.5 miles in 61 minutes on a hilly route through Walnut, Calif. It was the most difficult run I’ve undertaken since I began training as well. It would’ve been even if I stopped after 5 miles. My body responded wonderfully to yesterday’s massage. [...]

I took my own advice and didn’t run today. Good call. I woke up tired and sore. My knees hurt and my left ankle and achilles’ tendon gave me some serious problems in the morning. So, soon after waking up, I decided not to run and to do Yoga instead. (Can I recommend Misty Tripoli’s [...]

How I Got Here

24Aug07

220 pounds. 24 percent body fat. Unable to run around the block without feeling like I needed to pass out. An insatiable appetite for sweets. That was me a few months ago. I had never been in as poor a shape as I was a few months ago and realized that I had to change. [...]
