I used to think that SUVs were the only bullies of the road. However, after running for hundreds of hours the last two years, and commuting primarily by bike the last few months, I’ve come to the conclusion that there is a food chain of the road. If I had to diagram what it’s like [...]

In a study that followed 500 elderly runners and 400 or so non-runners, Stanford researchers found that those who hit the track regularly led longer, more active lives than those who didn’t. The author of the study said cardiovascular exercise is key. “If you had to pick one thing to make people healthier as they [...]

What a Day!

01Aug08

This might have been one of the most active days I’ve had since I was a mere boy. I woke up at 4:30 a.m. and rode the 2 miles to the local 24 Hour Fitness. I lifted weights and then rode home. At 6:10, I took my dog on a light 20-minute, 2.4-mile jog around [...]

Remember my running partner, my dog Isaac? Well, he’s sick. I think he’s been munching on the fertilizer in the backyard. He’s been throwing up white foam and has had major gas. Those signs seem to be symptomatic of fertilizer poisoning. However, Isaac did accompany me on a 3.6-mile, 30-minute run this morning. He was [...]

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the lagging stamina I have been struggling with. Once I hit three miles, I seem to be hitting the wall. This is disappointing as I had been running 10 miles with ease a few months ago. But I think I’ve found the key to getting over this [...]

Back to action

Over the last few months, I’ve really fallen off of my running pace and mileage. I guess it’s normal, especially after working so hard to accomplish a goal. But now it’s time to get serious. I plan on running the Pasadena Marathon on November 16. That gives me 17 weeks to accomplish the following: 1. [...]

The LA Marathon was the most exhausting thing I’ve ever done in my life. So why am I ready, three days later, to sign up for the inaugural Pasadena Marathon? Don’t tell me this marathoning thing is addicting.

I woke up this morning at 3:30. I needed to eat some oatmeal, drink some water and get myself mentally prepared for what I knew would be the most difficult task I had ever completed. Finally, after nearly half a year of preparation just to get myself in good enough shape to TRY to run [...]

I recently took a look at my per month running averages on the Nike Plus site. I noticed a disturbing trend beginning in November: June: 20.05 miles – 9:43/mile pace July: 31.98 miles – 9:03/mile pace August: 84.88 miles – 8:22/mile pace Sept.: 96.59 miles – 7:53/mile pace October: 108.91 miles – 7:44/mile pace November: [...]
